PERSONAL LIFE
Cyril Vincent Lawson was born in Murwillumbah on 31st October 1882, son of George & Emily Ann (Cheers) Lawson. He was one of 11 children. Many members of the family are listed on the Banner St Memorial, Murwillumbah which lists the 2348 pioneer settlers of the Tweed district and many are buried in Murwillumbah Cemetery.
ATTESTATION
He then signed a declaration confirming he had answered the questions correctly and was willing to voluntarily agree to service in the Military Forces of the Commonwealth of Australia
Maurice also agreed to allot three fifths of the pay payable to me from time to time during his service to the support of his mother
OATH
On the second page of the Attestation Paper, he made the following oath in the presence of the Attesting Officer: “I, Cyril Vincent Lawson, swear that I will well and truly serve our Sovereign Lord the King in the Australian Imperial Force until the end of the War, and a further four months thereafter unless sooner lawfully discharged, dismissed or removed therefrom: and that I will resist His Majesty’s enemies and case His Majesty’s peace to be kept and maintained; and I will in all matters appertaining to my services faithfully discharge my duty according to law
SO HELP ME, GOD.”
MEDICAL EXAMINATION
His medical showed he was 5ft 6 inches tall (1.68m), weighed 180 lbs (82kgs), with a dark complexion, brown eyes & brown hair.
His eyesight was good. He was Church of England and had one vaccination scar on his left arm
However, Cyril had applied to enlist in November and was found to be unfit for active service due to rheumatism and dyspepsia and on 28th February 1918 he was notified that he did not pass his medical examination
HOME LIFE
Cyril married Mabel Coralie Horton and died 29th August 1950 in Kempsey. He is buried in Frederickton cemetery, Anglican row K
